Camp Faculty

Our camp couldn't be possible without the amazing efforts of our faculty. We're still in the process of confirming our instructor list for 2026's Plano West Camp, but for now, view our tentative list below! 

As per current Plano ISD policy, only Plano West students are eligible to teach at our camp. However, this rule might change in the future, so we strongly encourage everybody to apply​!

Meet The Coaches

Coach for Debate

Dave Huston

David Huston is an Emory University/Barkley Forum Key Coach and a member of the Texas Forensic Association Hall of Fame. A four-time recipient of the National Speech & Debate Association’s Distinguished Service Award, he has served as a district chair in three different districts (West Iowa, Lone Star, and North Texas Longhorns), the Policy Debate tab chair, and the director of logistics at the National Tournament. Additionally, Dave has served as tabulation staff/director for several local, regional, and national tournaments including the Glenbrooks, University of Texas Austin, University of California Berkeley, Texas Forensic Association State Tournament, and the Tournament of Champions. He also served as president of both the IHSFL and FISO while still in Iowa. Dave has coached more than 40 qualifiers for the National Tournament, including the 1999 Lincoln-Douglas Debate national champion, the 2008 Policy Debate national champion, and the 2024 Public Forum runners-up. He received the inaugural Ted Belch Coach Award in 2008. He is a six-diamond coach.

Reggie Chapman

Reggie Chapman is the head speech coach for Plano West. Plano West has produced multiple state and national champions in speech and debate events over the years, earning the school a spot among the top 10 debate schools in the nation for seven years in a row. As a competitor, Reggie claimed 2 collegiate National championships; one in Prose Interpretation and the other in Duo Interpretation. As a coach, he has been blessed to work with some of the most talented students in the country, seeing some of his students go as far as winning the NSDA National Championship, the TFA State Tournament, the Yale Invitational, Emory Barkley Forum, and many more. He's excited to join the Plano West Camp, teaching new and inventive ways to help students bring stories from the page to the stage.

Coach for Debate & Extemporaneous Speaking

Meghan Clark

A Texas native who grew up in the Wichita Falls area and competed in extemporaneous speaking and Lincoln-Douglas debate for UIL; she placed second in extemp at the state level in both 2006 and 2007. She has coached speech and debate for twelve years, including seven years at Newcastle ISD, two years at Vines High School in Plano, and three years at Plano West. At Newcastle ISD, she coached multiple students to regional and state success in Lincoln-Douglas debate, policy debate, and extemporaneous speaking. At Vines High School, she coached students to an NSDA district championship, the semifinal round at TFA State, and the semifinalist round at Nationals. At Plano West, she has coached the champions at the Glenbrooks, UT, Emory, Harvard, and the TFA State Tournament; she also coached the second-place competitor in international extemp as the NSDA National Tournament. She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family, and lives in the Frisco area.

All of our camp's instructors are accomplished at the national level, competing at prestigious tournaments such as NSDA Nationals, The Tournament of Champions, Emory, UT, and Harvard. Read below to learn more about some of the instructors teaching at this year's camp!

Eric is a rising freshman at Stanford and is excited to teach at camp again! He mainly competed in extemporaneous speaking, winning national championships at Emory and the Glenbrooks. He also competed at the Montgomery Bell Academy Round Robin, an invite-only tournament for the top 16 extempers in the country. Outside of speech and debate, Eric enjoys visiting new restaurants, lifting, singing, and playing piano.

Eric Qian

International & Domestic Extemp

Varshini is a rising senior at Plano West and specializes in International Extemporaneous Speaking, with additional success in Domestic Extemp and Impromptu. She placed 9th at the University of Texas Longhorn Classic in Domestic Extemp, semifinaled at TFA State, and finaled both Extemp and Impromptu at Harvard, earning 4th place finishes. Varshini finaled Extemp and won Impromptu at ETOC and was top 12 at NIETOC. She has also won multiple local circuit tournaments, including Hockaday, Jasper, and Flower Mound in International Extemp, and received the Sandeep Gupta Award of Excellence in Domestic Extemp at Plano East. She is excited to meet everyone this summer!

Mohamed is a rising Senior at Plano West, he’s competed in International and Domestic Extemporaneous for the last 3 years. Mohamed has taught at the West Camp for 2 years and has extensive experience working with students at all levels. He’s qualified to the NSDA National Tournament, National Individual Events TOC, and TFA State —where he finished 8th in US Extemp this year — and was a semifinalist in Impromptu Speaking at the Harvard National Tournament. He’s excited to work with the campers this summer!

Mohamed Elrayah

Vijay is a rising senior at Plano West, competing in speech and debate since he attended West camp all the way back in 6th grade. He has competed in Original Oratory and Informative Speaking, multi-year qualifying for TFA State, NSDA Nationals, TOC, and NIETOC. He is a two-time state semifinalist and earned 7th place at 3 national circuit tournaments (including the Longhorn Classic and Florida Blue Key Tournament). Locally, he was selected as the only individual performer for the grand opening of the PISD Robinson Fine Arts Center (delivering his oratory), and he can't wait to teach camp!

Anahita is a rising senior at Plano West and is so excited to be coaching at camp! She competes primarily in Congressional Debate, qualifying to both the National and State Tournaments. She's been competing in Congress since 7th grade and attended West Camp a few years ago. She is so excited to see everyone at camp!

Rishabh is a rising senior and Plano West and is so excited to be teaching at west camp. He focuses on congress where he qualified for TFA State and NSDA Nationals. He was a semifinalist at TFA State, quarterfinalist at Emory, and a semifinalist at UT. This is Rishabh's first year coaching West Camp and he is very excited to meet everyone.

Prapti is a rising senior at Plano West and is very excited for camp this year! Her main focus is Congress. She has semifinaled at UT, finaled many local tournaments, and qualified for the TFA state tournament. This is Prapti’s first year at camp and she is really excited to meet everyone!

Rania is a graduating senior at Plano West and is excited to return as an instructor at the summer camp. She focuses on oral interpretation events, having competed in Dramatic Interp, Prose, Poetry, and Duo Interp. Rania qualified to the state tournament in 2026 and advanced to the quarterfinals round, as well as advancing to the semifinals round in the Barkley Forum, both for Duo Interpretation. She is excited to see returning students and meet new people!

Victoria Carvalho is a rising senior at Plano West and she is very excited to start teaching at camp! She focuses mainly on interp and especially in Humorous Interpretation. She has qualified for the NSDA National Totunament and been in Speech and Debate for all years of high school. She is very excited to meet everyone and help out!

Catherine is a graduating senior from Plano West High School who spent 3 years on the Speech and Debate Team. She plans on teaching interpretation events at camp this year, in which she has made final rounds at the UT Longhorn Classic, Emory Barkley Forum, Harvard, and TFA State. In addition, she is a 3-time national qualifier and will be attending nationals in Duo Interpretation this summer! Catherine is so excited to help foster a love for interpretation events, and is excited to see what everyone can do!

Zayd is a rising senior at Plano West debating in Lincoln-Douglas, where he was ranked a top 25 debater globally his junior year. As a two-time TFA qualifier, Zayd was the only sophomore his year to make the Sweet Sixteen at the Texas State tournament, ranked 3rd in the state of Texas, and finished his junior year in the Final Four of the Harvard National Debate Tournament. Specializing in progressive, philosophical argumentation, Zayd's well-versed in all forms of debate and excited to teach at West Camp this year!

Lincoln Douglas Debate

Skanda is a rising senior at Plano West. He currently participates in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, having qualified to the TFA State Tournament, NSDA Nationals, and Tournament of Champions. Most notably, Skanda reached the top 16 and was 3rd Speaker at the TFA State Tournament, reached the top 16 at the Tournament of Champions, the top 8 at UT and St. Marks, and the top 4 at the Glenbrooks. Skanda loves teaching debate, and is excited to meet everyone at camp!

Esther Zhao is a senior at Plano West Senior High School and primarily competes in Public Forum debate. She has advanced to late elimination rounds at many national circuit tournaments including Grapevine, Florida Blue Key, Glenbrooks, and the Tournament of Champions. She looks forward to working with everyone at West Camp this year!

Collin is a rising senior at Plano West Senior High School and primarily competes in Public Forum debate, which he has done since freshman year. He is a 2x qualifier to the TFA State Tournament and a 1x Double Octafinalist. He looks forward to working with everyone at West Camp this year!

Maggie is a rising senior at Plano West, and is very excited to teach at camp. She qualified to TFA State twice after her successes on the local circuit. She competes primarily in Public Forum debate, and has been in the activity for multiple years. She looks forward to sharing her skills and helping others achieve success!

Public Forum Debate

Priscilla is a rising senior at Plano West High School and is really happy to teach at camp. She is mainly focused on Public Forum Debate, having qualified to TFA State twice after competing in the elimination rounds of various local tournaments. Most notably, she qualified for the Silver TOC after finalling and earning top speaker at the Jasper TOC bid tournament. She is really excited to meet everyone and share her interest in debate!
